The ever lacking in compassion, Peter LaBarbera apparently thinks our lives are a joke. Writing today on his AFT website, “Who needs April Fools Day Jokes when you have the radical ‘trans-agenda.’” Does this man think our lives are a joke?
He goes on to agree with and then publish an article written by Laurie Higgins regarding a pregnant, transgendered man. Higgins writes: “The presence in the pregnant woman of a desire to be a man, a clear symptom of a profound psychological disorder, and even the foolish legal accommodation of this symptom, renders this woman a man only in an illusory post-modern fantasy–not in reality where most of us live and breathe and have our being.”
I have two thoughts reading Higgins insensitive remarks, 1) If it is a pychological disorder, then is your idea of compassion to say “Oh, and by the way, I still believe I’m a hobbit trapped in a human body.” and 2) if it is not a disorder why are you writing about it?
When I read the “hobbit comment” from Ms. Higgins, I felt such anger. For someone who is living their life as transgendered, especially for young children who have been seen displaying gender identity disorder at very young ages, this is anything but a joke. The fact LaBarbera and Higgins are both making jokes about the hobbit and April Fools days miniminzes the experiences and hardships of so many families and individuals touched by a trans person in them. I would request that Ms. Higgins and Peter LaBabarbera apologize for their insenstitive handling of this recent news story.
