I was really interested in DL Foster’s new website that focused on gay Christians. It appeared that DL was going to leave the political wasteland and keep his opposition to homosexuality where is should be in my eyes, based on his version of religious truths. I could respect that someone’s belief in the bible had a certain world view. I enjoyed reading the site and the different writers views he presented. I didn’t agree with much of it, but I did find it interesting. I thought DL was almost a role model that it could be done. You could oppose homosexuality on religious grounds and still avoid diving into hate speech. I believed it could be done.
Sadly, that has changed and his new site is back to his old tricks. Invoking fear, and enemy images of gays and lesbians. Spreading misinformation about hate crime laws and invoking fear in other Christians about gays based on untruths. I feel sad about this. I had no problem with DL’s site at first, because it focused on biblical grounds for opposing homosexuality. I try to stay out of those battles for the most part. I try my best not to debate or engage in that conversation about the bible. I have, but it is rare for me (and hell, why should I when Kevin is still willing to post here and knows more than me).
Anyway, I am sad to say that DL has gone from and interesting site about one person’s world view of God, to just another hate site spreading misinformation about Hate Crime laws. I should have known it wouldn’t last!
For the record, Hate Crimes laws do not have the power to trump the first amendment regardless what DL may twist the truth to scare you into believing. It isn’t true. A violent act has to be committed, then a motivation determined. If the motivation of that crime happens to be sexuality, then it is a hate crime. Speaking the bible is not a violent act therefore cannot be called a hate crime.

i have noticed the unfortunate fact that the anti-gay industry has sent black ministers as some sort of first line of resistance against adding us to hate crimes legislation. That DL Foster jumped in doesn’t surprise me. He probably felt left out.

Whatever DL’s reason for it, I am sad to see this. I was starting to have a different respect for him that I no longer think I have. No that I believe that makes a shit of difference to him or anyone else, but I still think it is sad.
I do believe that people can be opposed to homosexuality on religious grounds, but I don’t see where that means that people should resort to distortions about homosexuality or lies about hate crimes. Such things are just not necessary.

Lies and distortions have nothing to do with religion or homosexuality, or any other subject for that matter. They have only to do with honesty and integrity, or the lack thereof.
