It seems that Americans for Truth is continuing to use known lies and myths in the quest to spread hate and divide this country into pro-gay/anti-gay. In Peter La Barbera’s latest article trashing the democratic party’s support for gays, he is still referencing the John Diggs, M.D. article, The Health Risks of Gay Sex.
This article by Dr. Diggs relies on research that has been misrepresented, twisted and some that was never accepted to from the start. Mr. LaBarbera, in a very dishonest move, has decided to continue to reference the article.
There are many refutes of the article but the biggest should be its use of Paul Cameron as well as Bell and Weinberg as sources of research. This continued use of things like this shows that “truth” is the farthest thing from what this group represents. If they are honest, and full of truth why do they rely on lies and made up diseases to demonize GLBT people?
The wonderful part of this in my eyes is that the more Americans for Truth continues this barrage of hate, the more the American public will see this group for what it is…another Westboro Baptist Church.

Yet another headless monster. In my upcoming book, I devoted a section to debunking Diggs’s lies. It is amazing what these people continue to put out there.
We must continue to denounce their “studies” as lies and be able to prove our claims. Consistency is going to win the day for us.

When one reads old medical and psychiatric material concerning otherwise repressed groups, there is no less ignorance, distortion and fear mongering.
Dr. Samuel A Wright. Author of “Diseases and Peculiarities in the Negro Race.”
Women especially have gotten short shrift when it came to their emotional needs.
I’m putting together information regarding single characteristic bigotry.
Mostly in how, sound science is ignored or distorted to perpetuate prejudice, rather than alleviate it.
The single characteristic prejudice does attach other negative connotations to that characteristic. However equally present in other groups, somehow the single characteristic has ‘the potential to’ be a greater threat, the negative aspects are amplified and victimize entire societies and individualism is lost.
Known evidence is dismissed as completely the creation of and in the control of the minority group.
Despite the fact that the single characteristic doesn’t keep the individual from being competent and participating in every positive aspect the general public utilizes, the single characteristic is used as the single qualifying factor to be excluded from social integration.
You all know that.
But observing the single characteristic discrimination being taught to the public at large over the basics, like marriage and family.
No other human being is denied the legal ability to marry and raise a family over a single characteristic, except age.
And that is temporary.
The more the individuals by determination and discipline are able to debunk all the prejudicial material out there, the more the bigoted resist.
And if they belong to a majority, they are more able to exert the power of their numbers on the minority.
You know all that too.
That’s exactly how being gay squares with being black in a discriminatory.
The single characteristic factor, literally colors everything.
There isn’t any reason left now for the single characteristic to be used to hurt individuals and citizens.
However behavioral a characteristic it is. Our laws protect individuals whose behaviors do not compromise the lives and rights of others.
It’s not the BEHAVIOR that is protected, as so many anti gay people try to teach.
It’s the individual WITH the characteristic that is protected.
Our laws are used AGAINST gay individuals, which is anathema to the mission of our country’s laws.
Particularly when compared to those with clinical disorders that render them incompetent or able to care for themselves.
Or those who are chronically convicted of petty crimes.
There are no laws banning them from marriage and family.
Our marriage laws are very clear, minimal and without all the weight being applied to gay people only and not their straight peers.
I know you have noted that the new state amendments and court decisions, had nothing to do with GAY people.
But more to do with straight people, who already can marry with little restriction.
It’s almost as if gay people aren’t there. Or that these new laws are supposed to wish them away, or make gay people wish they weren’t here.
As for Diggs, and all the rest who are put forth as expert on gay people and their intentions.
Segregationists took the same liberty with being the experts on blacks and their abilities and intentions.
It’s not new, the tactics and deliberate misinformation.
But it’s no less evil, cruel, unnecessary and destructive.
The hard part is convincing people in general of that fact.
Frustrating and terribly hard.
With so many short attention spans out there, most people just don’t have the mindset to go that deep into the issue.
And it wont right itself. It won’t take care of itself without the participation of good people.
And you know what’s been said about evil, when good people do nothing, not enough…or the wrong thing based on what’s mythical and flimsy.

I have a question.
Am I wrong to expect that religious communities ARE wrong to use a single characteristic against the people with it?
Especially a characteristic without any more origin or difference in how that characteristic can be within those guidelines encouraged with straight people?
Not only that, but shouldn’t they be in the business of alleviating prejudice once science and evidence has made it’s point?
The mentally ill, women of strong independent spirit, or women’s bodily functions, were all seen as evil and possessed by demons. These were the first people to be punished inhumanely or executed cruelly.
We don’t submit people, who aren’t doing any harm, to such treatment. I thought that the purpose of science was to eliminate this treatment, and allow people the freedom to determine their own lives and also the medical and science professions ALSO were invested in helping people who were reaching levels of disability and social difficulty.
Being gay doesn’t resemble those things.
So I think and there is a moral imperative for religious communities to participate in alleviating the prejudice.
Especially when it’s a life or death issue for gay youth.
Who are violated regularly for it.
Except for what the Bible says (and that’s not EVIDENCE), how can anyone look at all that has been studied, relieved and revealed what’s factual and real.
I don’t think we’re wrong for holding religious or conservative people to task for their selective prejudices.
Because people are being badly HURT from it.
When it’s obvious the prejudice IS hurting someone, not helping anything and without justification.
What’s left?
How does someone justify hurting another person, EVER?

Just writing to say thank you to Regan and Joe and this blog.
Words are powerful tools. It can be used to inflict pain, to control and manipulate… but it can also be used to heal, to educate and unit us. Every time when I was put on the defense for being gay, I wish I had the words to tell others why the fight for gay rights is NOT about ME, and how it is about everyone, it is about being human. Thank you for your contribution on this website. Now I have a place to turn to next time I run out of words.
