As many of my long time readers know, I am a musician and a songwriter. You can find lots of my music and even a video I did for fun here on the site. At heart I am a keyboard player who can make pretty sounds with a guitar, but at heart I am still the little boy who took piano lessons at 5 years old. I had many heroes growing up including Elton John, Billy Joel, Rick Wakeman and of course, Rick Wright of Pink Floyd.
In my years growing up, I was a huge fan of Pink Floyd. The lush sounds and melodic piano lines inspired me to practice. I can remember begging my piano teacher to let me work on the “Great Gig in the Sky” and feeling so excited when she finally, reluctantly said yes.
Today, the man who inspired me by playing those beautiful lines, and introducing me to the beauty of Moog, has gone on to the great gig in the sky. I pay tribute with a hole in my heart. Rick, You will be missed but I thank you for the inspiration when I was a teenager!

During the 1970’s in the middle of my “sex & drugs & rock & roll” days, there were many rock groups that I would consider “my favorites”. Led Zepplin, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple etc, etc…
There was one however, that by far was at the top of my list, and that was Pink Floyd, and of course my favorite album was Dark Side of the Moon. I also went to many rock concerts back then and I couldn’t tell you the dates of them, but I do remember that June 18, 1975 was the date a bunch of us got together and drove up to Boston for the Pink Floyd Concert.
So, Joe I guess we are in the same boat in feeling the loss of Rick Wright.
Although my taste in music can be categorized as “eclectic” there is some rock music that I don’t enjoy like I did when I was younger. Pink Floyd however, produced some music that I consider to be timeless and I know I will enjoy just as much when I’m 80 as I did when I was 18.

For some reason, I can’t picture you having a sex, drugs and Rock n Roll section in your autobiography. Not to say it didn’t happen, but it is so hard for me to picture you with a joint in your hand while begging for someone to flip Led Zep on the turn table so you can hear the other side….cool!
